Class C Misdemeanor Range of Punishment - Texas Penal Code
§ 12.23. CLASS C MISDEMEANOR.
An individual adjudged guilty of a Class C misdemeanor shall be punished by a fine not to exceed $500.

is a class c misdemenor for a MIP in Texas a criminal or civil offense. Did community service and now I am an adult 6 years later. i am being asked on a teachers application if i had a judification criminal action. Do not know whether to put it on there or not
Received a misdemeanor c citation,theft less than $50.00.Went to the courthouse and asked the clerk to schedule a day to meet with DA and to plead not guilty. Date is set for June 17.Will I need a need a lawyer to speak to the DA,I have a clean record and will tell him how bad I feel and what a bad mistake this has been. Received a misdemeanour C citation for shoplifting less than $20. In the store I admitted guilty. Should I go to court and plead with judge to write it off (I have a clean record and am a well to do businessperson)? Or should I pay the fine and have it go on my record? Appreciate your advise.

I am being taken to court by my sons school for "failure to attend school". He failed to turn in excuses for his absences so the number ot absensed are over the # that is permitted. I want to know what the punishment is if my husband and I are not able to pay the $500.00 fine? The school told me that I would be sentenced to jail time if we can not pay. Is this true and if so how long will I have to be in jail?

Hello, I was traveling to Oklahoma this weekend with my son in his car. I was carrying a large amount of cash to purchase a motorcycle from a private seller there. When we got back home, I failed to remove my handgun that I took with me on the trip from his car. The next day he was stopped for speeding, and had to report the gun to the sheriff's deputy. I was cited for a Class C misdemeanor. I'm wondering what that fine will be?
I'm not sure of what kind of charge I have, but I had a confrontation with my mothers neighbor and words where exchanged, also the police came out and they wrote a report I think. They asked our names, but everything was in our favor and a month late I get a letter stating that I have to go to court for a Simple Assualt By Threat that I had been charged with. Hi, I was charged with possession of marijuana (0-2oz) when I was pulled over for a traffic violation. It is my first offense. The court has offered me a deal that will lower the charge from a class B misdemeanor to a class C which I'm likey to accept under the circumstances. My question is on a full background check will it come up as a marijuana charge, or something more like a mere traffic violation? Perhaps for what I was originally pulled over for? I'm thinking since all marijuana charges are at least class B than it will not show marijuana if it is a reduced charge. Thanks for your time and consideration.

Around 2 years ago, I received a citation for walking from one campus to the next (about a miles distance) during school hours. In the courtroom I pleaded "no contest". The fine I received was $565. At the time, I had no idea that the fine was not to exceed $500. Do I just forget that i was suckered out of $65 or is there something I can do?
I was convicted of my one and only DWI in TX, Lamar Co. and did 2 yrs. probation, and paid all fines. Yet a misdimeanor from 11 years before for a misdimeanor exposure charge at a bar showed up and my probation was modified to include 80 dollar a week therapy during the 2 years by a Judge. Total cost of DWI was around 10,000 dollars inculding polygraph test and DNA test. I find the legal system corupt in repunishing you for old misdimeanors repeatedly The ACLU even agreed this was wrong, but offered no solution.

My 20-year old son was "pulled over" and subsequently arrested for DUI a few days ago. His Breath analysis was .06. (under .08 is the legal limit) He was held overnight, told that he must pay a $500 fine before he would be released and informed that his court date would be the following week. I understand that Texas has a zero tolerence policy when it comes to alcholol, but what I don't understand is (with a Class C misdemeanor) why was he held in jail overnight and why was he told that he must pay the fine before they would release him? He has never had any other problems. My son has been in the military almost three years now, will be deployed to Afghanistan in the fall, but cannot have two beers during spring break--fight for your country, but no beer. I know that this is just my opinion but "zero tolerence" seems a bit extreme. Holding him overnight also seems a bit extreme for a Class C Misdemeanor...I have searched the Texas Penal Code, but I cannot find anything that references incarceration for Class C Misdemeandor...could you point me in the right direction?

I just recieved an MIC last Monday night. We got pulled over about half a mile away from my boyfriend's house, and they arrested him, immediately took him to jail, and towed and impounded his car. They refused to tell me why he was arrested and I had to get my mom to drive sn hour away to pick me up. Hello, my 19 year old son was stopped recently for a minor traffic violation (headlight out). The officer said he "smelled something", searched the car and found a small amount of marijuana in the glove box. My son was charged with a class c misdemeanor, ticketed and sent home.
